Configuring LabWindows/CVI to Use Source Control

Before you use source control with LabWindows/CVI, you must configure LabWindows/CVI to work with the third-party source control provider you select. Refer to the KnowledgeBase for the most current list of third-party source control providers that work with LabWindows/CVI.

Complete the following steps to configure LabWindows/CVI to work with a source control provider.

  1. Make sure the computer on which you are running LabWindows/CVI also includes a third-party source control provider, which you must install and configure. Consult your source control administrator for additional assistance.
  2. Select Environment»Options to open the Environment dialog box and click the Source Code Control button to open the Source Code Control Options dialog box.

This option sets source code control for the LabWindows/CVI environment.
  3. Click the Select button and select the source control provider you want to use with LabWindows/CVI from the Select Provider list. A dialog box from the third-party source control provider appears so you can configure connections, user information, and other settings for files under source control.

LabWindows/CVI scans the Windows registry to determine which source control providers are installed and uses that information to populate the Select Provider list.
  4. The source control project settings you select in the source control provider dialog box appear in the Provider and Project options. Click the Select button to reconfigure the settings. If the provider does not support this functionality, the Select button is disabled.
  5. Configure additional options you want in the dialog box.
  6. Click the Advanced button to set advanced optional configuration options specific to the source control provider. A dialog box from the source control provider appears. If the provider does not support this functionality, the Advanced button is disabled.
  7. Click OK and close the provider dialog box.
  8. Click the OK button to save configuration settings and close the Source Code Control Options dialog box.

After you configure LabWindows/CVI to work with the source control provider, you can add files to source control, check out files, check in edited files, rename files, and get the latest version of files in source control within LabWindows/CVI. You also can configure source control for individual LabWindows/CVI projects. If you change the provider through the Environment dialog box, the change affects all projects you use in LabWindows/CVI.

If you want to perform source control operations that are not available in LabWindows/CVI, work directly from the source control provider for those specific functions.
