Editing Instrument Drivers in Write-Protected Directories

When you attempt to edit an instrument driver in a write-protected directory, LabWindows/CVI gives you the option of copying the original instrument driver files into a directory with write access, usually the C:\Users\username\Documents\National Instruments\CVI\instr\instrument driver name directory, where username is the current user and instrument driver name is the name of the instrument driver you are editing. After you edit the files, you can replace the files in the original location with the edited copies by clicking the Deploy button in the Edit Instrument dialog box, selecting the Deploy Instrument context menu item in the Library Tree, or following the prompts when you unload the project.

You also can copy the instrument driver files manually to a directory with write access to edit them. If you copy the files manually and then want to replace the original files with the edited files, you must copy the files back to their original location manually.

Note Note  If you copy files to a directory with write access and do not copy or deploy the instrument driver files back to their original location, you must update the path to the instrument driver in all applications that use the driver to point to the edited files in the directory with write access.
