Translating the Message File

The message file, msgrte.txt, is a text file that contains the error messages that the LabWindows/CVI Runtime displays. You can find msgrte.txt in the bin folder of the LabWindows/CVI Runtime installation directory. To translate the message file into other languages, complete the following steps:

Note Note  This procedure suggests a naming convention for translated message files; in this example, creating a German message file. You can use your own naming convention.
  1. Make a copy of the original msgrte.txt file named msgrte-draft-de.txt.
  2. Use a text editor to translate msgrte-draft-de.txt. Modify only the text that is inside quotation marks. Do not add or delete any message numbers.
  3. Run countmsg.exe on the file to encode msgrte-draft-de.txt for use with the Runtime, as shown in the following example:

    countmsg <Location of file>\msgrte-draft-de.txt <Location to save file>\msgrte-de.txt

Note Note  countmsg.exe is located in the LabWindows/CVI bin folder.

msgrte-de.txt is the translated and encoded file. Because encoding the message file includes setting a count marker in the file, make edits to msgrte-draft-de.txt and run countmsg.exe again.

You can include the translated, encoded message file in a LabWindows/CVI Windows installer or package distribution. If you have an existing, translated message file and want to support a different version of LabWindows/CVI than the version with which you translated and encoded the message file, complete the following steps:

  1. Compare the existing, translated message file and the message file that ships with the other version of LabWindows/CVI.
  2. Replicate the changes from the other version of LabWindows/CVI into your existing translated file.
